Modern Usage
Human clinical studies have reported that lavender essential oil may be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including insomnia, alopecia (hair loss), anxiety, stress, post-operative pain, and as an antibacterial and antiviral agent. Lavender oil is also used together with other forms of integrative medicine, such as massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic manipulation. It can treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema, and acne.
Traditional Usage
Lavender oil, which has long been used in the production of perfume, can also be used in aromatherapy. The scent has a calming effect which may aid relaxation and reduce anxiety. It may also help to relieve pain from tension headaches when inhaled as vapour or diluted and rubbed on the skin. When added to a vaporiser, lavender oil may aid in the treatment of coughs and respiratory infections.
